When the owners of Villa Caviciana, Mocca and Fritz Metzeler, caught sight of Lake Bolsena for the first time, they were enchanted and irresistibly attracted by its magnificent scenery. From their love at first sight, it has since become a splendid estate of vineyards, forests, pastures and wildlife.
Since 2004, the Fattoria in Grotte di Castro has produced excellent wines and oils as well as typical local specialities, such as the tasty ham and salami from their Mangalica woolly pigs or delicious organic honey.
The farming business, which now employs 20 people in Italy and Germany, initially sold its products exclusively in Italy. Today, Villa Caviciana’s quality products are available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and even in Asian countries.
The estate currently cultivates 20 hectares of harvested vineyards, 34 hectares of olive groves (with approx. 6,000 trees) as well as 86 hectares of forest and pasture. In addition to the agricultural production facilities, the estate includes a tasting and events area, which can be used for wine tastings and events as well as two modern, well-equipped holiday apartments.
In 2016, we opened a main sales office and warehouse in Eltville am Rhein (about 50 km from Frankfurt), which is a great location for us. This is because our additional warehouse facilities in Germany mean we can deliver our products quickly and promptly and even in small quantities.
